The Dance isn't just a country song. It is the most eloquently worded love song post break up. Garth sings about his love, how much he loved her and how wonderful he felt was with her. And even though he went through a broken heart, he still does not regret having the relationship. "I could have missed the pain, but I'd of had to miss the dance" means that if he had not gone through with the relationship and saved himself from this heartache he still would have missed out on the wonderful times (the dance) he had with his ex. And the Dance was the most important experience for him. It is a beautiful song. Garth uses the video to describe not a break up, but life and the loss of people we love.
