If you and your fiancé are unconventional types, a medieval-style wedding may be just right for you. Throughout the United States there are Renaissance restaurants that offer medieval-theme dinners. Some of these places also cater weddings.

For a medieval-style wedding, the groom dresses as a knight, while the bride dresses as a princess. Your medieval-style wedding feast should include a lavish spread of hand-held foods (no utensils allowed) such as roasted chickens, racks of ribs, corn on the cob, and round loaves of bread. Many Renaissance restaurants also offer entertainment, which may include juggling and acrobatics performed by "court jesters," musical interludes offered by "wandering minstrels," and lyrical poetry recited by courtly "troubadours". Some places have out door courtyards where "jousting" events are held.

This out-of-the ordinary wedding event can be great fun. Just be sure to indicate on the invitations the type of wedding your guests should expect, and encourage them to come in proper medieval attire.
