    Dinner Surprise

idea puts a new twist on dessert. Rent a hotel room across the street from a romantic restaurant, and be sure to get two keys. Send your lover an invitation at work to meet you at the restaurant for a romantic dinner. The surprise of the dinner invitation alone should please your lover very much. Right after the dinner plates are cleared away, and before the dessert menu comes, pretend to go to the restroom. Instead, give one of the room keys to the waiter, along with instructions to deliver the key to your mate a few minutes after you leave. Then pay the bill, and go to the hotel room. When your mate arrives, greet him or her with dessert and champagne as an ending to your romantic dinner (and the beginning to a roman tic night).

    A Secret Admirer

Put a little mystery into your relationship. Send flowers or a card to your lover anonymously. Ask someone else to write out the card for you in his or her writing, so that you are not a suspect. When asked if you are the one who has sent the mysterious offering, play innocent to keep your lover in suspense. You can give in after one try, or you can send two or three gifts before disclosing your identity. You can even leave hints in each successive card as to who you are. A little mysterious, but a lot of fun!

    Sparks of Passion

Nothing inspires passion and emotion like an unexpected romantic interlude. This first suggestion, which is geared toward females, is a real "fire-starter." Put on some sexy lingerie under your everyday clothing and, if you have long hair, pin it up. When the moment is right, and your partner least expects it, put on some seductive music and turn down the lights. Casually walk up to him, let your hair down, and slowly, sensuously peel off your clothing and show him what you have been hiding.

Here's an idea for the males. Surprise your partner by leaving her a new piece of lingerie in place of her robe while she is in the shower. While you are waiting for her, slip on a pair of silk boxers, turn off the lights, and flood the room with candlelight. As an added surprise, have a bottle of chilled champagne on hand, and perhaps some juicy chocolate-dipped strawberries.

If you are at a party or other type of public gathering, and you want to set a few sparks flying in your lover's imagination, whisper something suggestive and intimate into his or her ear; something that will heighten the anticipation of your next romantic encounter. Perhaps you can tell him that you are wearing a piece of his favorite lingerie under your outfit (or maybe nothing at all). Or you can whisper a romantic reason why you can't wait to be alone with him or her, and are counting the minutes until your next intimate encounter. These little suggestive innuendoes are sure-fire passion starters.

    A Surprise at Day's End

At the end of the workday, do you head to your car in a comatose fashion like most people do? Is your ride home so routine that you are barely aware of even making the drive? Wouldn't it be nice to have this routine broken up by something extraordinary?

    • On an ordinary day, go to your lover's place of employment and decorate his or her car. Use streamers and balloons that bear a variety of messages. To shake up your partner's ride home, make a cassette tape with some very private and personal messages, maybe something that indicates what is waiting for him or her at home. Leave the tape in the tape deck with a little note that says "Play Me." Surely, the drive home will be sparked with anticipation.
    • For something more traditional, decorate your partner's car with roses and romantic notes, or fill the car with balloons. Have a cassette tape of favorite love songs in the tape deck with a note attached that says "Play Me."
    • Another idea to break up the monotony of your partner's ride home from work is to provide him or her with a trail of romantic messages. Cut heart-shaped signs from plywood or use "For Sale" signs that have been covered with paper. Write out a romantic message, putting parts of the message on each sign. Line your partner's route home from work with the signs spaced periodically. A little bizarre, maybe, but this idea is sure to surprise your lover at the end of a long workday!

    A Surprise Visit at Work

An unexpected visit to your partner's place of work is always a nice gesture. If the workplace is near a park, pack a lunch, bring a blanket, and enjoy a private midday picnic together. If popping in during the day is not possible, surprise your partner by showing up at the end of the workday. Treat him or her to an unexpected dinner.

    Take a Lunch Break

Call your lover at work and ask him or her to meet you for a romantic picnic lunch. Plan to get together some where outdoors like an arboretum, a beach, or a park. The simple act of taking time out from your hectic day to relax together will bring pleasure to you both.

    Thoughtful Tokens

For no reason at all, occasionally present your lover with thoughtful little tokens. These items can include any thing-a pint of your partner's favorite ice cream, a bar of his or her favorite candy, or a bottle of his or her favorite wine. Whatever your partner likes can be included in this special yet simple gesture of your thoughtfulness. If your partner plays tennis, you might bring him or her a new can of tennis balls; or if movies are a passion, present him or her with a favorite video classic. The idea here is to show your partner that you are always thinking of him or her.

    Surprise Messages

The beginning of a romantic relationship is often filled with little surprise intimate messages. Re-create that pas sion by dropping a small, unexpected message to your lover during the course of his or her day.

    • Write a romantic message with water-based markers on the bathroom mirror in the morning. It's a great way to start your lover's day.
    • Sneak into the bathroom while your partner is in the shower and write a spontaneous "I Love You" in the mist on the mirror.
    • Slip a message into your partner's makeup case that men tions how beautiful she is to you without the makeup.
    • Write a romantic message across a banner, then hang it in a doorway or across the front of the house.
    • On a cold winter's day, write a "welcome home" message on a frosty window or door. This should put a smile on your mate's face, especially if he or she has had a bad day.

    Time Out

Making time for each other is a basic element for romance. Occasionally taking time out from one of your favorite personal activities to spend time with your lover will send an impressive message. Surprise your partner with a romantic dinner or lunch during the time you usually sit in front of the television and watch endless hours of a sports program. Or treat your lover to an afternoon at the movies during the time you normally work out at the gym. Put off that afternoon of gardening to go for a peaceful walk with your partner.

Want to approach this idea from a different angle? Make an effort to learn a little about one of your partner's interests (even if it is something you really don't care for). Imagine how surprised and pleased your lover will be when you join in the activity he or she enjoys. This act shows your mate that you respect his or her interests, that you care, and that you are open to new interests.
