Romantic Birthday Ideas Part 5
A Fairy Tale Romance
If you don't mind putting a lot of time into a gift, consider videotaping your own short story in the form of a skit. First, write a humorous or romantic tale about an event in your relationship (or borrow a plot from a well-known story, and substitute you and your partner as the main characters). With the help of some friends, film the skit, then end it with a special birthday wish for your partner. You can have great fun making the film, as well as watching it together.
You Didn't Think I'd Forgotten?
Pretend to forget about your partner's birthday. Don't mention it for the entire day. As your partner arrives home from work, greet him or her with a beautifully wrapped present of a new outfit (perhaps a sport coat or dress). Pin a note to the outfit with instructions for your mate to change into it quickly- you have dinner reservations! Take your lover by the arm and set out for a fun-filled evening of romance.
The Power of Flour
Very few purchased items can carry as much love as something made with your own hands. Since a birthday cake is a must, why not try baking it yourself? If you need a little help, check your local library, where you can find numerous books on cake baking and decorating. If you are the type who doesn't normally do much baking, be prepared to see your lover's eyes light up when he or she discovers that you made the birthday cake. Be sure to personalize the cake with a special message on top. You can also liven the cake presentation by putting a few sparklers amidst the candles.
Provocative Pictures
Does a sexy picture of you seem like an unrealistic idea for your partner's birthday gift? Don't be so quick to dismiss this idea. A first-rate photographer can produce professional and classy pictures of this nature, and can actually make you feel comfortable during the shooting.
The gift possibilities for your provocative pictures are end less. For example, you can simply slip the pictures into your partner's birthday card. Or, if you want to be a little more creative, surprise your lover by incorporating one of the pictures in his or her favorite part of the newspaper. (This will certainly break up the standard reading hour. And what are the odds that the paper will even get finished that night?) Other good hiding places for your photos include his or her car, briefcase, purse, cereal box, jacket pocket, and medicine cabinet. You can prepare a special photo album prepared with these pictures for a very personal gift.
Flower Power
Get into the wild. Decorate your partner's car, inside and out, with wild flowers. For added effect, gather as many different types as possible. Tie a large ribbon around the vehicle and adorn it with a large birthday card. If you don't want to catch your partner completely off guard, warn him or her with a trail of flowers from the front door to the car. Record a birthday greeting on audio tape and have the tape ready and waiting in the tape deck. Your partner will be in for a drive to remember.
The Magic Hour
Have you ever been awakened by a gentle tapping at your bedroom window in the middle of the night? To start your lover's birthday in grand fashion, at the stroke of midnight, show up outside his or her bedroom window to deliver a birthday card, a message, and a kiss. Flowers and balloons can further melt your lover's heart with romantic messages of love. If you are the theatrical type, this is a perfect moment to recite a love poem or sonnet. As you disappear into the night you can be sure that you will be leaving behind a warm heart.
Celebrate at Work
Many people spend a great deal of time in the workplace. If your mate has a lot of friends at work, it might be nice to arrange a surprise birthday party for him or her at the end of the work day. Commence the activities by unexpectedly pop ping up with a candle-lit birthday cake. You and your partner's coworkers can then join in for a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday." Bring snacks and drinks to make it a complete celebration.
If your partner's company isn't big on private parties, plan a surprise celebration at a bar or restaurant right after work. Have one of your mate's coworkers ask him or her to come out for a birthday drink. Your job, of course, will be to have the rest of your partner's colleagues at the party place ready and waiting to celebrate.
A Group Effort
A very simple way to make your loved one feel extra special on his or her birthday is by making a large home made card and having all of your mate's friends, colleagues, and family members sign it. The thoughtfulness and care that is shown by this effort can't help but set his or her heart soaring.
Another group effort idea to make your partner feel special is to persuade as many of his or her friends as possible to call to say happy birthday. Get friends from out of town, or those he or she hasn't spoken to in a while. Your sweetheart will love you (or hate you) for this one.
Housework Blues
If your mate spends large portions of time doing dreaded housework, you can touch his or her heart by hiring a maid service for, say, once a week for a month. Then utilize you lover's free time to do some special things together. You can go on a romantic picnic, see a movie in the middle of the afternoon, or simply take a romantic walk together. Value this free time and keep the focus on romance.
An obvious alternative to hiring a cleaning service is to do your partner's tasks yourself without his or her knowledge. A break from cleaning the house or mowing the lawn is always welcomed.
A Surprise Breakfast
You can always rely on the tried-and-true surprise of breakfast in bed to get your partner's birthday off to a romantic start. Try to sneak out of bed early to begin your morning surprise. Once you have prepared a special breakfast, add a few personal touches-a single flower in a bud vase will add a touch of class to the breakfast tray, and a birthday gift and card will certainly complement your thoughtful meal. Accompany the birthday breakfast with the morning paper and some music from your partner's favorite radio station.
The Fountain of Youth
If your partner is feeling "old" and is not particularly excited about having another birthday, you can help him or her feel a little better by implementing the following scheme. Plan to take your partner out for a birthday dinner. When you call to make reservations, arrange for the waiter or waitress to ask your mate for the proper identification when he or she orders a glass of wine or a cocktail. (Use your judgement to decide whether your mate will find this flattering or annoying.) If done properly, even though your mate may know that he or she looks old enough to be served, the thought is sweet enough to put a youthful twinkle in his or her eyes.
